<p>A new criminal investigation is under investigation in the Grand Canyon State into alleged attempts by Republicans to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.</p>
<p>Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes, a Democrat, put a group of prosecutors on the case back in May which appears to focus on 22 Republicans who signed and transmitted official documents &#8220;claiming to be the state’s chosen electors for Trump in the electoral college,&#8221; The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2023/07/13/investigation-2020-election-results-arizona-trump/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.</p>
<p>One set of documents was signed by GOP activists while another set was signed by Arizona Republican Party Chair Kelli Ward and other &#8220;high-profile Republicans,&#8221; the report said.</p>
<p>Investigators have already made contact with many of those who allegedly signed the documents and their attorneys, the report said.</p>
<p>Trump does not appear to be a target in the criminal investigation at this point but that could change depending on if new evidence emerges in the case. A similar <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/06/politics/michigan-fake-electors-attorney-general-dana-nessel-investigation/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">criminal investigation</a> is also underway in Michigan over alleged attempts by Republicans in the state to overturn the results of the election.</p>
<p>The former President is already under indictment in two cases, one out of the Manhattan District Attorney&#8217;s Office that is deemed by many to be weak and politically motivated and another from special counsel Jack Smith, which experts say is far more serious.</p>
<p>Trump also faces a criminal indictment in Georgia over his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election and he faces a second federal criminal investigation from Smith over the same matter.</p>
<p>The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/07/01/trump-2020-election-arizona-governor-doug-ducey/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> at the start of the month that Trump allegedly tried to pressure then-Arizona Governor Doug Ducey &#8220;to overturn the state’s<b> </b>presidential election results, saying that if enough fraudulent votes could be found it would overcome Trump’s narrow loss in Arizona.&#8221;</p>
<p>The report said that Trump repeatedly asked then-Vice President Mike Pence to contact Ducey and push him to find evidence to support Trump&#8217;s claims.</p>
<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t remember any pressure,&#8221; Pence <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mike-pence-doug-ducey-donald-trump-call-2020-election-face-the-nation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> CBS News earlier this month, adding that he checked in with governors across the nation whose states &#8220;were going through the legal process of reviewing their election results.&#8221;</p>
